The Importance of Updating Web Content

Written by Charles Mburugu for Gaebler Ventures

A common saying among webmasters is "Content is king"! And not just any content, but regularly updated content. Adding fresh content to your website often is the basis for your success online. There are several reasons for this.

This article explains why updating you're your website regularly is important and shows some ways of doing it easily and cheaply, or even for free.

Search engine spiders love crawling new pages

There is a lot of competition in an attempt to be considered the "best" search engine, and the sum of pages indexed is an important element of success. If you take enough time to add fresh high quality articles to your site frequently, Google and other search engines will look upon you favorably.

Adding new content regularly to your site retains search engine spiders' 'interest' in your site

Once the spiders realize that you add some new content often, they will visit your site very frequently. Your fresh pages will be crawled, indexed and start appearing in searches very soon.

Quality content attracts more visitors to your website

Why? It is a game of numbers. If 100 pages in your site are indexed in search engines, that implies there are 100 'paths' to reach your site from search results. Your site has a higher chance of being 'found' for a great number of search terms than if you had only five pages. The bottom line is quality content. Don't just put junk in there. Your visitors and the search engines alike will loathe junk.

More content draws more inbound links, which improves your search engine rankings

Getting many links to many pages will help improve your website's status in the 'eyes' of Google and other search engines. This means you pages will be ranked higher for search terms.

So how do you continuously add quality content to your site? There are numerous simple ways to add quality content to your website, even on a daily basis.

Write articles

Just do a Google search for topics associated with the theme of your website, read the available information, and then create articles based on what you have read. Avoid copying another site's articles unless you have the owner's permission. Doing this is 'copyright infringement' and could cause you unimaginable trouble. The easy four-step process is Search - Read - Understand - Write! If you don't have the ability, desire or time to write articles yourself, hire others to do it.

Request other webmasters for article submissions in exchange for a link to their sites

Re-publishing good articles is normal in the publishing industry, and if you go about it the right way it can bring dividends to you. The key is to avoid search engine duplicate content penalties by having enough text on the page besides the article text. Header and footer information, navigation links, etc. are all important in making a page different from others.

Visit the numerous 'Free Content' sites on the internet

There are practically thousands of good articles already written that are offered free in exchange for a link to the author's website. This is usually a brief 'resource box' at the end of the article. Simply search for 'free content' in the search engine.
