Small businesses are embracing social media as an excellent tool for promoting and growing a business. New statistics on small business use of social marketing tools suggest that small business social media usage is accelerating.
Small businesses in the United States view social media as the best way to identify and attract new customers without spending any money. It's that motivation that led to the use of social media doubling in the last year among small businesses.
The report is the third installment of results from the Small Business Success Index report sponsored by Network Solutions and the University of Maryland's Smith Business School.
One out of five businesses uses social media daily; this includes blogs and Facebook. For new small businesses, it can be difficult to develop a customer base. That is precisely why social media's expanded use is especially good news for small business owners and new franchisees.
"Tough market conditions mandate small businesses to think and act creatively to sustain themselves," Connie Steele, director at Network Solutions, said. "Social media can be the best friend for small business owners who constantly seek new ways to attract new customers and retain the ones they have at a relatively low cost."
Their potential customer base is constantly expanding as well. WebProNews.com reported earlier this month that Facebook has more than 400 million users. An astounding 200 million of those users access their accounts at least once per day.
