Tips For Growing A Small Business

Entrepreneurs and small business owners should not be afraid to make a mistake, and should learn to make their business play into their individual strengths. In addition, segmented mailing lists can offer SMBs a cost-effective way to reach specific consumers.
In an interview with The Ridgecrest Daily Independent, Michael Alter, SurePayroll president and CEO, said there are many useful tips he learned about growing a small business that was not taught in any of his business school classes.
According to Alter, entrepreneurs and small business owners cannot be afraid to make mistakes, because they often prove to be valuable learning tools later on. Owners must try new things and let employees experiment with different business techniques as well.
In addition, Alter recommends entrepreneurs and small business owners play to their strengths. Rather than wasting valuable time and resources learning how to develop new skills, SMB owners should focus on nurturing existing skills and building business models around them.
Another way small businesses can grow more efficiently is by reaching out to new customers and clients through cost-effective marketing campaigns. The U.S. Postal Service has teamed up with UPS Store to offer small businesses a new direct mail program. The U.S. Postal Service's Every Door Direct Mail Retail service helps small businesses deliver to addresses in their target markets without needing a mailing list.
The service can identify and collect addresses within a specific city, neighborhood or distance from a company and create a mailing list for small businesses to use. Once the list has been made, SMBs can print and distribute marketing materials through their local UPS store, using the customer data to hit target audiences. This takes the processing step off of the shoulders of the small business.
