Lakers legend will speak at Inner City Capital Connection Program in LA.
One of the most legendary point-forwards to ever play the game of basketball is taking his talents to a whole new arena - small business lending.
The Initiative for a Competitive Inner City announced that Magic Johnson would be the keynote speaker for its Inner City Capital Connection Program, which is supported by Bank of America. The two-day event will give entrepreneurs from the inner city a chance to give speed pitches to potential investors and will also hold workshops that will show those looking for capital the best ways to achieve their goals.
The Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Economic Business & Policy is also a co-sponsor. The Mayor said that he couldn't be happier to have Johnson involved with the conference.
"We are delighted that ICCC is bringing their conference back to Los Angeles and to partner with Bank of America and my good friend Magic Johnson," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa when speaking about the news for small business owners. "Public-private partnerships such as this will bring much needed capital to our entrepreneurs and growing businesses and help lead us back to economic recovery."
Scott Howard-Cooper recently reported for NBA.com that Johnson had been busy looking into business opportunities within the league. Though he currently owns 5 percent of the Lakers, the NBA Hall of Famer recently expressed interest in becoming a minority owner of the Detroit Pistons.
