Small business owners can be nominated by going to local SBA offices
Throughout the country, the U.S. Small Business Administration has been making news for small business owners by seeking nominations for the Small Business Person of the Year and the Small Business Champion award.
The SBA's South Florida District Office recently sought nominations from Sunshine State entrepreneurs for the 2011 South Florida award. The award will be handed out during Small Business Week 2011, which takes place from May 18-20. Once the nomination process is complete and the area winner is named, the person will then go on to compete for State of Florida Small Business Person of the Year - and if they make it past that round, it's on to the nation's capital.
The other award seeking nominations is the Small Business Champion of the Year award, which goes to people who have supported small business interests and helped entrepreneurs succeed.
The SBA has been in the news recently after it committed $75 million to the Fifth Street Financial Corporation. The AP reports that the bank has created a "pool" of $225 million to lend to small businesses.
