Raleigh Tops Forbes List For Best Cities For Business And Careers

An educated labor force drives Raleigh, North Carolina to the top of the pack when it comes to business-friendly U.S. cities.
In some good news for small businesses in Raleigh, North Carolina, Forbes has ranked the city number one in their 13th annual list of Best Places for Business and Careers for 2011.
The list said that the city has low business cost at 18 percent below the national average, a smart labor force with 42 percent having a college degree and the city has seen the second highest mitigation rate in the United States over the last five years.
Forbes said that Raleigh and near-by Durham may be getting a strong economic lift from the three local, high-ranking universities in North Carolina State, Duke University and the University of North Carolina.
The rest of the top five according to Forbes follows as such: Des Moines, Iowa; Provo, Utah; Lexington, Kentucky; and Fort Collins, Colorado.
According to the Forbes list for the Best Cities for Young Professionals, Des Moines, Iowa is the number one city due to its 5.8 percent unemployment rate and high concentration of big businesses, with one for every 568 residents. Raleigh, North Carolina was second on this list, with Madison, Wisconsin coming in third.
