The explosion of social media in the last few years has been welcome news for small business owners, but the best way to use it isn't always clear.

Entrepreneur Marketing Solutions

Trying to effectively market a business on Facebook can be intimidating, but a recent report from Content Marketing Today outlines some steps that can be followed to make the process successful.

Entrepreneurs should begin by making a business account with a Facebook ad or page. Facebook pages identify a business and contain descriptions of business type, product or brand.

Settings can then be customized to set up email updates or mobile phone applications, and control who can see the page.

The use of Facebook applications will allow users to see blog posts and tweets. There are lots of applications with a variety of useful functions.

Businesses on Facebook can also benefit by making sure there is fresh content to share, joining networks or fan pages, and using Facebook Insights, a free service that analyzes data related to the company's pages and ads.

Most of the attention on social marketing has been aimed at consumer marketing, but business-to-business firms can use it effectively as well. A recent study from research firm eMarketer indicated that 60 percent of B2B marketers plan to increase their spending on social media marketing this year.
