Small Businesses Need To Use Social Media As 'word Of Mouth' Marketing

Social media bridges the trust divide between brands and consumers by offering a convenient, word of mouth marketing device.
The technology news for entrepreneurs has pointed toward using social media for the last couple of years, and Paul Chaney, in writing for Practical eCommerce's website, said that small businesses can use the social internet as a way to help spread word of mouth marketing.
"It's become a well-understood fact that people do not trust marketing and advertising messages as much as they used to," Cheney writes. "In its place, people have come to trust each other. Word of mouth has great influence in this social media-inspired ecosystem that is the web."
Cheney writes that what works so well in social media is that everyone has a voice and influence, yet some have it more than others. He said a good strategy to go with is reaching out to those in social media who have the most influence.
According to another article on the site by Cheney, businesses can invest in many different "influence measurement" tools which look at what kind of influence an individual user has and measures it. Tools like Trackur, Brandseye or even free tools like Tweetbeep can be useful for businesses who want to find out who has the most clout among their peers in social media.
