Top small business announced during National Small Business Week 2009.
Sponsored by the Small Business Administration, National Small Business Week presents a series of conferences, gatherings and networking opportunities for smaller U.S. firms.
Each year, an exemplary small business owner is granted the title of National Small Business of the Year and this year's winner generates plenty of inspirational news for entrepreneurs everywhere.
Jenna Sellmeyer of Oklahoma City runs the company the ASSET Group, which is an environmental remediation firm that was founded in 1990.
Among its services, the ASSET Group provides asbestos and lead-based paint remediation for local clients.
Yet it's not only the company that provides inspiring news for small businesses, but the owner, for Sellmeyer fought a brain tumor and after Hurricaine Katrina, chose to modify the services that the ASSET Group provides, sending employees to stricken areas and raising funds.
Karen Mills, SBA administrator, praised Sellmeyer and commended her personal strength and dedication to her company at a recent awards banquet, describing the businesswoman as "a perfect example of the grit and determination it takes to become a highly successful entrepreneur in America today."
