Groupon has introduced a new version of its smartphone application.
Over the past year, group purchasing site Groupon has been a central player in small business news, especially when it comes to marketing.
Now, the daily deals couponer is hoping to improve its location-based efforts by launching a new version of its mobile app. Groupon Now will allow small business owners to offer consumers deals for specific times and locations.
Unlike its predecessor, Groupon 1.0, which allowed users to mark a deal they like to use for later, the new version will benefit merchants by allowing them to create time-specific deals to better manage supply and service.
"Take an example of a major convention or conference happening in an area - merchants can now time their offers at locations that can earn them the most buck. Possibilities with this kind of marketing are endless and operators can make the most out of these by careful planning, stocking and management," Reuters writes.
Groupon has been so successful in merging the need for effective marketing with consumers' desires for outrageous deals that the company was able to turn down a $6 billion buy-out offer from Google, and is now preparing for a $25 billion IPO, CNN reports.
