Facebook and American Express OPEN partner to sponsor small business contest.
It's rare for a day to go by and not see something about Facebook featured in news for entrepreneurs, and today's no different.
The social media giant will be partnering with American Express OPEN to launch the "Facebook Big Break for Small Business," the duo announced in a statement on Thursday.
The competition will award five small businesses with a two-day trip to Facebook's headquarter's in Palo Alto, California, where they will receive a one-on-one business makeover, $20,000 to drive their social media strategy and training on how to maximize the site, including Facebook Pages, Ads and Social Plug-ins, to target new and existing customers.
"Small business owners are experts at customer engagement, but the tools and techniques for finding and engaging customers are quickly evolving," said Julie Fajgenbaum, vice president of brand and customer marketing for American Express OPEN. "It's critical that business owners understand these new channels and platforms."
For the lucky winners, this tutorial could be particularly helpful, especially as four out of five U.S. businesses with 100 or more employees is expected to be engaged in social media by 2011, according to a report from eMarketer.
