New report may be a good sign for SMBs as more workers feel confident they can find a job.
In a sign that the economy may be rebounding soon, a new report from Spherion finds that job seekers in New York are growing more confident that they can find work, which may be good news for small businesses looking for quality employees.
According to the May New York Employment Report - part of the Spherion Employment Report - 41 percent of workers are confident that they can find a new job, an increase from the 36 percent who said the same in April.
The report also finds that people looking for work seem to feel that the hiring freezes are thawing. In the April report, 84 percent of workers felt there were fewer jobs available, but in the most recent findings that number dropped to 73 percent.
Linda Perneau, vice president and general manager of Spherion Staffing Services, says these figures may show that the economy is ready to bounce back.
"This month's report shows that nearly half (41 percent) of workers are confident in their ability to find a new job, increasing five percentage points from last month," she said. At the same time, a decreasing number of workers believe there are fewer jobs available, indicating there may be a light at the end of this tunnel."
