Top small business group backs Republican candidate
A Republican candidate for attorney general in Florida recently got the backing of one of the most influential business groups in the entire state.
The National Federation of Independent Business/Florida, came out in support of Pam Bondi as she runs to become the next attorney general of the Sunshine State. The announcement came as the group mounts a legal case challenging the legality of the new healthcare laws passed by Congress earlier this year.
One of the main reasons for the endorsement was Bondi's strong support for the court case and her commitment to helping small business owners throughout the state.
“This race is of critical importance to small business owners – the future of Florida’s role in the lawsuit challenging the federal healthcare law lies in the attorney general’s hands,” said Bill Herrle, NFIB/Florida executive director. “Florida needs an attorney general who will stand up to protect our constitutional rights. Pam Bondi has committed to continuing to challenge the constitutionality of the healthcare law - a stark contrast to her opponent."
There was other news for small business in Florida this week when the government stepped in to help those affected by the BP oil spill. Governor Charlie Crist announced that businesses in Northwest Florida would be able to take up to $25,000 in interest free loans in order to get working capital as they recover.
