Starting a Marketing Consulting Company
Interview with SEEK-Consultants Founder Stacee Amos
Starting a marketing company just got a little easier. Stacee Amos explains how she did it, and you can learn a few key lessons from what she has to say.
As part of our many resources for entrepreneurs, we've assembled a large collection of entrepreneur interviews.
In this interview, we spoke with Eustacia " Stacee" Amos about the marketing consulting firm she recently started.
Tell me about your current business, Stacee. What are you doing exactly?
SEEK-Consultants, LLC is a marketing consulting company, based in Phoenix, Arizona.
We take the story behind the brand, and communicate it powerfully. Brand. Strategize. Promote.
I started the business on August 31, 2008.
What were you doing before this?
This is my first business. Before this, I was working in advertising agencies, and chose to strike out on my own to really make a difference. I leveraged my personal savings to start the new company.
Who are your main competitors? How do you compete against them?
We compete against other independent marketing consultants and staffing firms. I compete against them by focusing on the brand story and not just the 'branding.' I focus on the original story, or roots behind the brand to consistently connect with prospective companies. Most marketing consultants take a brand and start doing branding work, I always start with, "What's your story?" to get a clear understanding of the original premise.
How has your experience in running the business been different from what you expected?
It's much more hard-work yet more fun. I love my rules, because they are mine. ;-)
Is there anything you wish you had done differently?
I wish I had a solidified client when I started, but I'm happy to have enough connections to get something moving quickly.
What have you done that has been very effective in helping to grow the business?
The two main things have been networking and staying connected with partners over the years.
What advice would you give to somebody else who wanted to start a similar business?
Just do it and don't look back.
Perfect. Hopefully, many of the aspiring entrepreneurs who visit our site will listen to your advice and take the plunge. Thanks so much for sharing your entrepreneurial experience with us, and good luck in growing your new business.
