Company Background Information
Overview
In 2003, a small team of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology founded Agrivida, with a vision to harness the power of biotechnology to identify, select, and express in crops the genes responsible for the production of high value enzymes, proteins, and nutritional molecules. The goal was to use broad acre crops like corn as the manufacturing host for these proteins, such that expensive scale up technologies like fermentation bioreactors would not be needed and food and feed could be produced more sustainably for the environment, and at a much lower cost. In the 20 years since then, our team has successfully produced numerous animal proteins in corn and has developed, deregulated, and commercialized feed enzyme products produced from corn, clearly illustrating achievement of their initial goal of making alternative protein production affordable and customizable.
